OPEN LETTER TO PACIFICA
Friends of Pacifica,
The schemes by some of the local station boards to swap, sell, or lease WBAI, or to buy KPFA at fire sale prices and so on, are all just that–schemes.
Schemes supported by some out of concern and innocence, but also schemes borne out of malevolence and personal gain.
Pacifica’s problems have come about from a long reign of neglect, ill will, and incompetence. There are competing factions everywhere, and vultures circling.
Let’s drop the schemes and demand that Pacifica get on the road to recovery by first completing its audits. There can be no CPB money without a completed audit– nor can there be any fundraising from major donors.
Those proposing various self-cannibalizing schemes that would destroy our precious network tell us there is no money for an audit. That is a lie. There is money if they want it. Here’s how to call their bluff:
The “cost” of the audit now has supposedly grown to about $200,000. Demand that Pacifica have a nationwide on-air fundraiser for seven days, SPECIFICALLY FOR THE PURPOSE OF RAISING MONEY FOR THE AUDIT.
Each of the five stations needs to raise $6000 a day. Seven days times $6000 is $42,000 per station.
Five stations times $42,000 is $210,000. More than enough for the audit.
Let’s get that done FIRST, so that then Pacifica can be nursed to health. It takes one lousy week of pitching.
The WBAI CAB has already taken action, supporting this motion.
WE WANT TO HEAR BACK FROM YOU THAT YOU SUPPORT THIS MEASURE AS WELL.
Station managers, Pacifica Board members, CABs, LSBs all need to get on board with this.
AUDIT, OR GET OUT OF THE WAY! IF YOU CAN”T SUPPORT AN AUDIT, RESIGN! NO TO SWAPS, LEASES, OR SALES!
